Literacy

District 115 provides evidence based reading and writing instruction that facilitates literacy learning for all students. Foundational skill instruction is reflective of the Science of Reading with an emphasis on phonological awareness, decoding, and sight word recognition. Language comprehension instruction complements foundational skills and is applied across the curriculum. Speaking, listening, and writing are integrated into and support the literacy framework. Yorkville students have access to a wide variety of reading materials and demonstrate literacy success in a myriad of ways.
Student literacy skills are assessed and monitored on a consistent basis. Differentiated reading instruction is provided for all students. Early interventions for students with reading difficulties are provided by highly-qualified reading and learning specialists.
