Conversation Guide

  • While navigating the gradebook can be challenging for parents, it is important that parents are able to support their children throughout the learning process. The following questions can be used to facilitate conversations between parents and their children, and parents and teachers.

When examining grades in ParentVUE, consider asking your child the following questions:

    • What is the timeline that you should to follow so that you are ready for a reassessment on this information?
    • What areas do you think you still need to learn?
    • Do you need to retake the entire assessment, or just some of the components?
    • When was the last time you practiced/worked on the component?
    • Have you used all of the resources available to you (tutoring center, testing center, teacher, etc.)?
    • How are you using your time during the school day (Flex, ACCESS, Advisory, etc.)?

When contacting a teacher concerning a summative grade, consider asking the following questions:

    • When was the last time all students were assessed on this component/outcome?
    • What opportunities will my child have to reassess on this component/outcome?
    • What practice, studying, and/or re-teaching opportunities should my child take advantage of before being reassessed on this component/outcome?
