The YMS Boys Basketball Team is a developmental program with its main goal being to prepare players for success at the high school level and beyond. Through consistent hard work during practice and games, student-athletes develop the fundamental skills of basketball. Coaches emphasize the "one team" concept during the season, even though there will be two separate games (A and B) played on most scheduled game days.
Both the seventh- and eighth-grade teams are members of the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA), which allows the teams to participate in the state tournament beginning with regional and sectional pairings. This tournament is at the end of January, after the conclusion of the regular season and conference tournaments.
Boys Basketball is a cut sport with three days of open tryouts during the middle of October.
